One-Hundred Dollars For Milk And Bread? Have you ever gone into the super market for milk and bread
and come out with a cart full of things you didn’t plan on buying? I have! I’ve
had trips that have cost me ten times what they should have all because I didn’t
stick to a list. In fact, I didn’t even have a list. I leave the store thinking how I needed milk and bread, but I spent $100 for it? The only thing I had was
too much temptation to add more to my cart than necessary. And shopping at the
big super stores makes it just a little harder. Not only do I leave with food I
didn’t necessarily need, but now I can add cosmetics, pet products, and
clothing to the groceries I hadn’t intended on purchasing.
So…how do we beat this? Make a list. Check it twice. And if it isn’t on it, don’t add it to your cart. Or if you prefer a little bit of flexibility, determine what you are willing to impulse buy before entering the store. Are you willing to splurge and allow one non-essential item only? Will you allow one item for each person? One item for the entire family? Do you have a fixed dollar limit of $5,$10, $20 for this trip? Or do you have a monthly allowance for impulse purchases? (This monthly allowance may be useful especially if it is a larger and more expensive item that you just found on sale and were planning to purchase at another time.) Once you have determined how you and your family will handle impulse spending, you can follow through with how you will handle all of those extra’s that aren’t on your list. By eliminating the non-essentials on each trip, you’ll be amazed at how much you will save over time. In fact, it may be enough for you to plan a major shopping spree on major ticket items in a year or two. Would you like to join others and give it a try? Participants in this month’s 30 Day Challenge will make this their challenge! All life change members who participate and share their stories of savings in the forums will have the opportunity to win a life change t-shirt! Members log in now to get your 30 Day Challenge.
